Moonshadow is a floor lamp and accompanying furniture collection developed as my graduate thesis at ArtCenter College of Design. The work draws from Chinese landscape poetry and the visual philosophy of the full moon at night — light and shadow as a metaphor for clarity obscured by the pressures of modern life.
The lamp's form pairs two distinct natural archetypes: the moon, dynamic and luminous, and the pine tree, silent and structurally unwavering. The pine-inspired base functions as both visual anchor and structural support, while the shade translates the moon's soft diffusion into a precise lighting experience. The collection also includes the Vista sofa and a companion side table, developed as a cohesive residential grouping.
Fabrication was entirely self-directed — combining SolidWorks engineering with woodworking, 3D printing, and resin casting to resolve the technical challenges of the lamp's curved profiles and material transitions.
Moonshadow was recognized by the ISOLA Design Award (Final Shortlisted), Core77 Design Award (Student Notable), and LAMP International Lighting Design Competition (Shortlisted) in 2023–2024.
